Macaws are among the most sought after pet birds, treasured for their stunning looks and, increasingly, for their companionship potential.

Blue and Gold Macaw (Ara ararauna) Length 34 inches
Origin:- Almost all of Northern South America, from Panama to Northern Argentina, also Trinidad.

Scarlet Macaw (Ara Macao) Length 34 inches
Origin:- Large areas of Central and South America. One Population resides in Central America, from the state of Oaxaca in Mexico southward of southern Panama. A second population inhabits South America, east of the Andes, ranging from Colombia to Bolivia and eastward across Brazil to Guiana.

Green-Winged Macaw (Ara chloroptera) Length 36 inches
Origin :- South America, from Panama to Paraguay and Northern Argentina in the south, from Northwestern Colombia east of the Andes to Guiana and Venezuela.

Military Macaw (Ara militaris)
Origin:- Northwestern Venezuela to eastern Ecudador and Northern Peru

Other Macaw species include:- Yellow-naped (Ara auricollis) Length 15 - 16 inches, Severe Macaw (Ara severa) length 18 inches, IIIiger's Macaw (Ara maracana) Length 17 inches, Hahn's Macaw, Noble Macaw (Ara nobilis) length 12 inches, Hyacinthine Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) Length 36 inches.

Macaws are beautiful, highly intelligent, responsive and affectionate, they can also be loud, destructive, expensive to feed and house. Unsuitable for inexperienced owners.

Diet:- There are many complete diets available for Macaws, high quality seeds,as well as 'gourmet' mixes which contain whole nut kernels, banana chips and other high fat items. These are excellent for Macaws. Nuts should be included in the Macaws diet, such as walnuts, almonds and Macadamia.

Of course, Macaws also need fruit/veg on a daily basis. Cooked pulses are also suitable.
