Today my beloved Penny died in my arms...........

Her arthritis had been very bad, and she had a fall in the garden this afternoon.

She was unable to walk and I made the appointment for the vets knowing that she probably would not be coming home with me.

She was well into her 18th year. And she has lived with us for the last four of them. She was my constant shadow, always near me. If I was at the computer...she was asleep by my side...when I was in bed.

There she would be on her sheepskin by the bed. Her love of life shone through, even though she was deaf, blind and incontinent. A rattle of the lead was enough to get her tail wagging and ready to go!

My vet in agreement with me said it would be unfair to pump her full of drugs to keep her going for another week or two.

Penny died peacefully in my arms this afternoon. She has gone off to doggy heaven to be with Jess and Bella, she takes with her a piece of my heart and lots and lots of love.

Now as I sit here with out my shadow, I know I did the right thing for her.........but the empty space she leaves makes my heartache and the tears fall.........

Penny I will miss you and love you always my scruffy little shadow friend.
