Charlie's Katie

Hi, katie is around 8 - 9 months old now she can say "tickle tickle," "what ya doing," "hello,""skooby doo," as well as wolf whistle. She also loves talking her head off in parrot talk she loves being given a shower from a spray bottle , but she loves getting a bath in the sink even more .

She sits on my shoulder when I walk around the house. She also loves playing with her many toys and ripping up cardboardand paper. When I first got her I couldn't get her to eat anything but baby food called Emp I think. She did eat fruit and veg but wouldn't eat seeds infact she lost some weight at first. Well I sent for some of those Harrisons Pellets and katie sure loves them if I crush then down and add either a touch of water or a touch of fruit juice. So she eats pellet food and also likes peppers, grapes, oranges, bananas ect.

I did keep reading how these parrots are suppose to be really loud but katie is usual quiet apart from her mad chattering fits she also adores to shout louder then my hoover, if I stand infront of her cage and do a parrot type dance she will start dancing about by putting her wings back bobbing her head about and coming out with all the words she knows as well as her parrot chat.

katie loves cuddles and strokes, she did give me a bite once but it was my fault as I think she was half asleep when I put my hand in her cage..ouch!

I had a Grey but Igot a hell of a cough with that bird and after visits to my docs and the hospital they said it was the dust off the Grey causing my coughs and sore throat ect. I like greys but to be honest katie has more personality then the Grey I had, ( but all birds are different I think )

katie runs along the top of the cage then leaps on her teddy bears or her toys pretending she's attacking them, she loves tug of war with a newspaper and growls like a dog.

Oh, one thing else, the more I read about different Amazon types on the net the more confused I got, one site says get a Blue Naped Amazon another says get an Orange Winged Amazon.lots seemed to say the yellow crowns and Yellow Naped / Headed Amazons aren't that good as pets, then another site will say something different.

I chose the Yellow Crowned one for the simple reason I liked the yellow markings oh and they have red and purple and blue ect under their wing feathers. I also liked the way some sites said these parrots are clowns at times, but I bet all parrots can be that way.

I think best thing for you is to look at the parrots you are considering and go for the one you like the look of best. katies great, but Iguess they are all different individuals. Oh, she was hand reared and cost me £575.00.

Oh, yes also she goes to sleep at 10.00pm on an evening and wakes up around 8.00am.
