About Us and Our Flock

Bobby - Blueheaded Pionus and Oscar - Maximillian Pionus

So, who are we we hear you ask? We are Cheryl and Mark, we are married, have been for 25 years, is it really that long?! We have three sons, Michael, David and Ben. They all still live at home. Our home is a lively and noisy place, often hectic and always busy! We adore birds and most of our day is taken up with preparing foods, cleaning and spending quality time with our birds.

Any free time we have we try to answer many of the queries we recieve by E-Mail, or update our website, perhaps even catch a brief chat with some of our friends we have come to know through Parrot Passions UK..

Birds have been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember. We currently share our home with five birds, there is 'Boss' bird Bobby, our three and a half year old Blueheaded Pionus, then there is Oscar, he is a cheeky two and a half year old Maximillian Pionus, Chico, is our four year old Orange Wing Amazon, Pip, is our one and a Half year old Cockatiel. Our most recent addition is Susie, our six month old Yellow-Thighed Caique. Of course we should not forget Billy, he is our twelve year old Ginger Tom Cat, who is quite happy to live among the birds without wanting to have them for supper!!

Chico - Orange-Winged Amazon

Although we don't breed parrots, we have had quite a bit of experience hand rearing abandoned or rescued British wild birds. We have successfully hand reared Blackbirds, Starlings and our biggest success was a Moorhen, our son Ben rescued her from some youths who were about to throw the moorhen into a busy main road. We reared her and kept her for three years. She would swim in our bath and happily play with the parrots, even climbing their play gym!! We nicknamed her 'Birdie' and she would come when called. Birdie is now living in a wonderful British Sanctory, she is tame and now has company of her own kind.

Bobby was our first parrot , a parent reared Blueheaded Pionus. We first saw him in a local pet shop, he was there for weeks, no one wanted him, he had a digit missing on one foot and was hardly a show bird. We fell in love with him immediately, he has the biggest dark eyes you could imagine. It was almost Christmas and we hated the idea of Bobby being left in the shop, so we bought him. He is the most loving, gentle and brave parrot we have ever known. Not long after we bought him home he was very ill, he was suffering from heavy metal poisoning. Thanks to an excellent avian vet and four days in a vet hospital Bobby made a full recovery.

Pip Our Grey Cockatiel

Second came Oscar, our playful and sometimes naughty Maxi Pionus, we bought him from an excellent breeder, Oscar is hand reared and is Bobby's best friend, although both male parrots, they have a very strong bond.

Our third bird was Pip, the cockatiel, he is hand reared and loves attention! He can talk and says 'hello Pip', he mimics the sound of the telephone and loves to dance to music!!

Our fourth bird, Chico. She was bought as a male Orange Wing, but DNA sexing soon told us the truth, we had a female!! She was very nervous at first, but in a short time Chico has come to trust us and is happy to give you a kiss and adores having her head scratched! The parrots all get along and play together, we are merely their slaves!!

Susie Our Yellow-Thighed Caique

Last but not least is Susie, she is a Yellow-thighed Caique and is the most hot tempered little madam we have ever known! She wrecks the house within five minutes of coming out of her cage, our lounge looks like it has been burgled! She rules all the birds except Bobby, she will stand and scream until she gets her own way. Yet late in the evening, as she tires, you look at her and would easily think, what a sweetheart, butter wouldn't melt in her mouth!
