An Important issue which should not be overlooked when you bring home your first parrot is any other pets you may have at home.
Do you own dogs or cats? Not all parrots are used to other animals and seeing a dog or cat, even hearing a dog barking may well stress your parrot considerably. Many parrots, especially hand reared babies are sometimes reared in an environment that may have other pets, however, it is best not to assume your new bird will adjust so easily to any other pets you may have.
Never trust other pets alone with your parrot, it only takes a blink of the eye for tragedy to occur. It is natural for cats or dogs to have instinct. It may appear that your bird and cat or dog seem to get along just fine but never take the risk of leaving them alone together.
Aside from the obvious danger from teeth and claws, dogs and cats can also transmit infectious elements in their saliva that can harm your bird. Having cat saliva on a birds feathers is enough to introduce an infection that could kill the bird.
