Pacheco's Parrot Disease

Pacheco's disease is caused by a herpes virus. All parrots are capable of being infected.

Pacheco's is brutal to its victims, with death often the first sympton a bird owner will notice. The disease can develope in as little as two days from the time of exposure, with death coming as quickly as five days or as long as several weeks.

Symptons include lethargy, ruffled feathers, diarrhoea, nasal dischagre and tremors in the neck, wing and legs.

Pacheco's disease is best handled preventively, through proper cleanliness and rapid action should the disease shows up in a household.
